Is Your Home Fire Safe?
Cleveland Fire Brigade offers FREE Safer Homes Visits to help protect you, your family, and your home from fire. Whether you live alone, with others, or support someone more vulnerable – we’re here to help.
One of our friendly team members will visit your home at a time that suits you. They’ll check for potential fire risks, give you practical safety advice, and fit smoke alarms for free if needed.
It’s quick, it’s free, and it could save your life.
Book your visit now: Call 01429 874063 Or fill in the quick form online: www.clevelandfire.gov.uk/book-a-safer-homes-visit
Remember: only working smoke alarms save lives – check yours once a week.
Feeling Inspired by the North East Firefighter Challenge?
Step Up and Serve Your Community…
If the North East Firefighter Challenge has sparked something in you, the teamwork, the resilience, the grit and determination, why not take the next step and see if becoming a firefighter is right for you?
Firefighting is more than a job – it’s a chance to make a real difference, support your community, and challenge yourself physically and mentally every day.
Although we aren’t recruiting for wholetime firefighter positions right now, if you live or work within five minutes of one of our on-call fire stations, you could join us as an on-call firefighter.
On-call firefighters are vital members of our crew – they respond to emergencies when needed, train regularly, and bring invaluable skills to the Brigade. It’s a great way to give back to your community while developing fitness, teamwork, and life-saving skills.

Think You’ve Got What It Takes?
Let’s Talk Fitness…
Whether you’re aiming for an on-call role or preparing for a future wholetime recruitment campaign, physical fitness is key. All firefighter applicants must pass a series of nationally recognised practical tests that reflect real situations our crews face.
These Include:
Ladder Climb – to assess your confidence working at height.
Equipment Assembly – testing manual dexterity and following instructions.
Casualty Evacuation – simulating dragging a person to safety.
Enclosed Space Crawl – navigating tight, dark areas with breathing apparatus.
Ladder Lift Simulation – testing upper body strength.
Equipment Carry – moving firefighting tools quickly and safely.
We’re here to support you in preparing, and our recruitment webpages include more information on the process and what to expect.
